Short & Sweet Book Reviews

Hi! I’ve read so many good books lately, and some… Not as great books, that I wanted to review all of them at once. So here are some short & sweet book reviews, all keeping to one or two sentences. Like if you enjoyed this format and want to see a post like this again!

Fingersmith, by Sarah Waters image

This thrilling and tightly woven book is set in Victorian England, centering around a girl growing up amongst criminals and a girl with a fortune, and is basically what would happen if Charles Dickens wrote about lesbians.

The layered characters and intriguing plot make for an entertaining- and really hard to put down- historical novel.

V For Vendetta, by Alan Moore and David Lloyd

A graphic novel about rebellion, resistance, and ‘everything comic books weren’t supposed to be about’. I loved the themes and kickass action of this book, and the movie is pretty cool too.

Warning for creepy masks, an absence of romance, and a possibly insane terrorist/hero.

The God Box, by Alex Sanchez

I cringed when I saw this cover, and the book isn’t much better. While it deals with important topics and provides interesting insights into the Sodom and Gommorah story, the overall book is shallow and badly plotted. More books about those teens who are religious & gay are needed, but this was not the right one, for me.

Why Be Happy, When You Could Be Normal?

by Jeanette Wintersonimage

Why Be Happy, When You Could Be Normal?, is a memoir, and basically a truer version of Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit. I thought it stretched on longer than her happy ending was, and provided an absurdly real story of a girl growing up with serious family problems. The matter of fact narration was really refreshing, and I would recommend this book to anyone.

Fans of this book should try Fun Home, a really interesting and beautiful graphic memoir and play.

That is all of the books I’ve read recently, expect for How To Get a Girl Pregnant- expect a full length review coming shortly- and I’d love any book recommendations or feedback on this post!

Thank you!
